This weeks Nintendo Direct proved to be a mixed one, with many annoyed at the ambiguity of the details for the Amiibos, and the huge demand for a Majora’s Mask re-make being met with a notably small supply is aggravating.

On the other hand, I would rather focus on one of the more interesting and promising features that Nintendo are bringing to the Wii U. Re-releases of Wii Games, direct to the E-shop.

The first on the list of re-releases is Mario Galaxy 2, which is on sale for it’s first week. This sale will apply to all of the re-release to the E Store, which are Mario Galaxy 2, Punch Out & The Metroid Prime Trilogy, which seems as it will be sold as a “Master chief Collection” like compilation.

Obviously these are 1st party big players for the Wii, but should it catch on, what other games could get re-released over the coming years? Well here are some of my personal favourites and hopefuls, as well as a few obvious choices.

Mario Galaxy

This might seem like an obvious first choice, but why the Metroid Prime trilogy gets a whole re-release, but only half of this awesome series gets released is a weird choice. Even having them as separate games on the E Store I’m sure would go down a treat.

Sonic Colors

While The re-releases are exclusive to Nintendo (probably due to rights and whatnot) I think a few third party games would be successful. Sonic’s history has been mired by awful, broken games, but Colors proved that SEGA still have it in them to make a playable- nay, enjoyablesonic game, and would hopefully clear the air after Sonic Boom.

Super Paper Mario

This charming game captured the hearts of many. the unique gimmick of being able to transfer from side scroller to 3D platformer was an interesting take on your typical mario game. Part RPG and Part platformer. This game stinks of Nintendo goodness, and I for one think it deserves a re-release.

Pikmin 1 & 2

Now, I know that Pikmin was brought to Wii from Gamecube, and to take it a step further and stick it on a console 2 generations down the line would a be a world ending travesty, but I’m willing to bet that anyone that’s played Pikmin 3 on the Wii U will agree with me, that the gamepad brings a new style to the game, as well and beautiful visuals.

The Last Story

JRPG’s are famous for their re-releases and updated visuals/features, and this beauty is more than due a second bout of lovin’. With music composed by the big N himself, Nobuo Uematsu, and produced by RPG veterans Mistwalker, this game hits the nail on the head with style and playability.

Obviously, this is all hypothetical, somewhat unlikely that any of these come true, save for maybe the mentioned Mario games, but seeing as there is such a market for this, I’d imagine putting the funding in, just to upscale the games would make Nintendo a large profit in the long run.

But, with talks of a new flagship console on the horizon, it’s unlikely that support will continue for the Wii at all, including older titles. It wasn’t so long ago that Nintendo pulled the plug on the internet servers for many games, meaning you could no longer play Mario Kart Wii online.

Perhaps we’ll see a similar successor to the Wii U as the 3DS: the “*New* Nintendo Wii U.” got a ring to it, hasn’t it?
