Nintendo has announced Pokemon Shuffle, an upcoming free-to-lay game coming to the Nintendo 3DS in February.

The game is like that of Bejeweled and Candy Crush, only the gems are replaced by faces of popular Pokemon. Players will need to line these faces up in rows of three for them to disappear. The twist is that a player will have a limited amount of moves available to create a certain amount of matches.

Nintendo says that players “will be able to take advantage of their own Pokémon’s type during gameplay. Players will also be able to raise the level of their Pokémon as they play, enabling them to deal even more damage. Some Pokémon can even Mega Evolve, just like those in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Mega-Evolved Pokémon are able to remove many wild Pokémon from the Puzzle Area at a time.”

When the game launches, players will only have five play sessions. Once this is depleted, players will gradually gain back play sessions over time unless they pay to speed up the process. The cost to do so hasn’t been revealed by Nintendo.
