Square Enix’s latest foray into the phone market has seen Japanese gamers play Final Fantasy: Record Keeper on their phones. The game was made available in Japan since September 24th of 2014. No word was announced for localisation until now with the release of the official trailer.
Final Fantasy: Record Keeper is a free-to-play mobile game that allows players to play through memorable battles and witness memorable cutscenes all over again.
Free-to-play is something Square-Enix has done before with their last mobile game Final Fantasy: All The Bravest; and I refuse to forget such a game existed that preyed on the nostalgia that fans who loved the series held dearly and corrupted it into a quick cash grab for the company. Needless to say, this left a bad taste in my mouth for the franchise; and while Record Keeper seems like it improved the battle system so it’s not a boring grind, the premise of ‘memorable battles’ and ‘memorable cutscenes’ makes me weary about the company’s true nature regarding this title. I’ll most likely take a look at this game when it comes out out of obligation to being a fan of the series and I’ll keep an open mind regardless.
The game is slated to be out on iOS and Android sometime in Spring this year.
