With the release of Final Fantasy XIV’s first expansion, ‘Heavensward’ now just over a month away, Square Enix, the developers behind the MMO have released a music video showcasing the beautiful theme song of the upcoming expansion. Entitled ‘Dragonsong,’ a reference to The Dragonsong Wars, the conflict Heavensward’s story is set to revolve around, the song is a haunting piece, composed by none other than Nobuo Uematsu himself.

Uematsu has had a hand in the music of Final Fantasy going all the way back to the franchise’s first release in 1987. With its original launch, the entirety of Final Fantasy XIV’s music, at the time, was actually composed by Uematsu. Also, returning from her work on the core game’s theme, Susan Calloway provides the vocals for Dragonsong.

In the music video we are also treated to some new footage of ‘Heavensward’ complete with the stunning locales, creatures, and armor designs the series is known for.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward will hit shelves June 23rd on PS3, PS4, and PC. Until then, what do you think of the theme? Let us know in the comments.
