Driveclub’s long overdue free PlayStation Plus version is “in final stages of development” according to game director, Paul Rustchynsky via Twitter. This is largely due to a massive server upgrade Driveclub received on June 1st of this year.

Evolution Studios infamous simulation racer was originally pinned as a PlayStation 4 launch title with a free version for PlayStation Plus users. Just before its initial launch date, Driveclub was pushed back. Upon its eventual release the game was riddled with crippling server issues. According to an article on IGN, Sony stated that the PlayStation Plus version would be delayed until they were confident the servers would be able to sustain the large amount of users.

It is worth noting that the PlayStation Plus copy of Driveclub does not contain all the content featured in the main retail release.

No official release date has been given as of yet.
