Tourney mode will be coming to both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game this August. There will be two types of Tourneys: Community Tourneys and regular Tourneys.
Community Tourneys let players compete for the highest points in a certain amount of time while regular Tourneys have a specific set of rules and only happen at select times.” Nintendo said during the Smash Direct.
Nintendo says that the development for both Tourney modes have been completed, but they want to test out the online feature to make sure everything is ready to be released to the public.
Perhaps we might see Tourney mode in future (or upcoming) Nintendo World Championship.
