It’s Friday in Destiny, which means the arrival of the enigmatic exotic merchant Xur.
Xur can be found in the “cantena” area of the Tower, hanging out near the recently installed boombox. For an in-game look at the location, check out the video below:
This week, Xur is packing a mixed bag. Some very useful items, along with some exotic gear that might not live up to the title.
For titans, Xur is selling the “Mk. 44 Stand Asides.” These are PvP-centric boots that extend the length of shoulder charge. If you love charging other players in the Crucible (as I do), then these boots are for you. Otherwise, they do not have much use. In PvE, they are pretty much worthless, unless you get a kick out shoulder charging wizards.
Hunters get the “Mask of the Third Man.” This is a top-tier bladedancer exotic. While this helm is equipped, your arc blade “super” will last much longer. This is very useful in both PvE and PvP, as more time will equal more kills. It will also allow you to chain special attacks together, such as the arc wave or invisibility. This is a definite buy.
Warlocks receive “Light Beyond Nemesis.” With the release of House of Wolves, this helmet has seen its usefulness skyrocket. With the hardcore elimination game mode, Trials of Osiris, revives are essential; this helmet allows you to revive your teammates even faster and also allows them to revive you faster. Useful in both PvE and PvP, this is a must have for Warlocks looking to benefit their whole fireteam.
The weapon of the week is “Universal Remote.” While shotguns recently received a massive damage buff, this particular exotic remains underwhelming. One of this weapon’s most notable issues is the fact that it is equipped in the primary weapon slot.
At this point in the game, having a shotgun as your primary is simply not beneficial, as you will quickly run out of ammo. The weapon’s main bonus is not spectacular either, increasing range and precision when you aim down the sights. A pass, unless you are a collector.
Finally, the engram of the week is for chest pieces. Those looking for the Armamentarium, Lucky Raspberry, Heart of the Praxic Fire, or the Purifier Robes should take a gamble.
And that’s it for Xur this week. Does anything strike your fancy? Or will you be saving those strange coins for next week? Sound off in the comments below.
