Since it was first revealed, one of the criticisms Star Wars Battlefront has faced has come down to it’s narrowing in scope in comparison to previous games in the series. This is especially prevalent given that all three demos the game has shown off so far have been set on the three most iconic planets in the Star Wars universe, Endor, Hoth, and Tatooine, with maps on only one more planet, Sullust, set to ship with the game.

Speaking with Gamespot, Senior Producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, discussed the design decisions that went into the choosing what to put in the game and what experiences the game is trying to create. “I wouldn’t say that we’ve designed it by committee. We have a very strong, very competent design lead. But, basically, what we’ve taken is what to us is the core of Star Wars… Star Wars is so vast, there’s so many things in Star Wars that are beloved by so many. And so they are hard choices.”

She then went on to explain, “We selected what we felt was the absolute core of Star Wars. And people can then debate that endlessly whether this is more core than that. Or why do you have this and not this. We can’t do everything, unfortunately.”
