Fallout Shelter, Bethesda’s smash hit Vault building simulation is heading to Android-based phones this August.

In response to a fan on Twitter, Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines shared the news. He said that Fallout Shelter for Android was “coming along nicely.” Hines went on to add that, although they “Haven’t announced a date,” Fallout Shelter “should be out next month.” Hines concluded with “We’ll let you know when we have specifics,” so we should be expecting direct information shortly.

Fallout Shelter was initially announced during Bethesda’s E3 conference and was released later that day to Apple devices. It has climbed iOS charts, even surpassing Candy Crush Saga as the favourite Free-to-Play game. Despite having microtransactions available in the form of “lunchboxes” to earn extra characters and content, Bethesda has won over players by ensuring us they have simply created a good game and it’s not all about profiting.

Fallout Shelter is everyone’s opportunity to become their ideal Overseer and carry out their own Vault-Tec experiments on survivors. Whether through repopulating, exploring the Wasteland or defending it from Raiders, players are tasked with building the ideal underground haven to wait out the dispersion of nuclear waste up above. Residents in players’ vaults can be tooled up with all sorts of recognisable gear from the Fallout mythos such as Power Armour to improve the odds against the Radroaches.

Fallout Shelter has become the best way to tide us over whilst we wait for Fallout 4 later this year. In fact, Bethesda have just added Commonwealth Minutemen leader Preston Garvey (and his trusty Laser Musket) as the first Fallout 4 character to the game. Fallout 4 will be releasing on PC, Xbox One and PS4 November 10th.
