Gamers were not expecting Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 to release until next month. Turns out fans are getting an early surprise.

Today Scott Cawthon, creator of the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, announced that the fourth entry in the franchise is now available on Steam. The title is running for $7.99. Cawthon stated: “Ok, so as many of you already know, I’m bad with release dates. The game is finished. :)” He also notes that some were having trouble the fullscreen option, but that he would have that solved soon.

Cawthon originally announced Five Nights At Freddy’s 4: The Final Chapter in April. While the Steam release and last week’s trailer are both missing “The Final Chapter” subtitle, the Steam synopsis still refers to this game being the last in the series:

“This time, the terror has followed you home.”

“In this last chapter of the Five Nights At Freddy’s original story, you must once again defend yourself against Freddy Fazbear, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and even worse things that lurk in the shadows. Playing as a child whose role is yet unknown, you must safeguard yourself until 6am by watching the doors, as well as warding off unwanted creatures that may venture into your closet or onto the bed behind you.”

“You have only a flashlight to protect yourself. It will scare away things that may be creeping at the far end of the hallways, but be careful, and listen. If something has crept too close, then shining lights in its eyes will be your end.”

The first Five Nights At Freddy’s title released in August 2014. It was then followed by Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 that November. The third game in the series released this past March. In April, Warner Bros. announced that it had picked up the movie rights for the series, and that a movie was in development.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 4 will receive additional content this Halloween.
