You read that correctly, Nintendo PlayStation – two gaming mega brands mashed together as one.
Back in the long-ago Nintendo tasked Sony with creating a compact disc iteration of its SNES console, Nintendo changed their plans leaving Sony with an unwanted CD based games machine.
Posts have appeared on Reddit and Assmblergames showing images (above) of one of the rare prototypes.
If not for Nintendo pulling out of the project, the gaming landscape we have today could have been very different.
This failed partnership turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as instead of scrapping the project altogether, Sony decided to use all their hard work to make their own console – the Sony PlayStation.
Of course, I don’t need to tell you; but PlayStation is now synonymous with gaming, and going by sales they’re winning the current console war.
So I guess we should be thankful the partnership didn’t work out. No matter your feelings towards PlayStation it’s given the gaming world some great mascots and great memories. And undoubtedly, there are many more to come.
