Modding tools for ARK: Survival Evolved have been released to the public today, along with a new game mode that rains dinosaurs down from the sky.

The dev kit for ARK has been described by the developers as “a streamlined version” of Unreal Engine 4 editor that is meant to “simplify the creation and sharing process” for mods on the game.  It allows modders to create a number of things with it including weapons, creatures, game modes, maps and other items.

The kit can be downloaded from the Epic Games Launcher.  THose with access to the launcher should see a new tab at the top of the screen, otherwise you can sign up and download it from Epic’s website.

On top of this Studio Wildcard are also holding a modders competition, sponsored by Alienware, with $25,000 in prizes to be won.  The details of the competition can be found here.

Studio Wildcard have also released the “Survival of the Fittest” total conversion mod onto the Steam workshop.  The mod takes the form of a deathmatch, but more involved, as the goal is to hunt and kill the other players.

In a crazy twist on this game mode a freak weather event occurs every 30 minutes in which dinosaurs fall from the sky in a storm that can only be described as ‘PC gaming at its best’.

ARK: Survival Evolved is available to download through Steam, in Early Access.  The game is also set be released on PS4 and Xbox One in the near future.
