Star Wars Battlefront will not have a traditional single player campaign. Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir, senior producer at DICE, has said that Battlefront’s history is rooted in multiplayer and that is the reasoning behind the decision.

“As we concepted the game and thought about the legacy of the previous Battlefront games–they didn’t really have campaigns, they’ve always been predominately a multiplayer franchise. That’s what we wanted to do,” she explained. “We wanted to focus on the multiplayer.” “From the start it had a pure multiplayer focus,” Ingvarsdottir added. “It was a lot of the pedigree of the DICE studio, in terms of having delivered great multiplayer in the past, and for us we feel like this is more of a multiplayer franchise. So that’s been the focus.”

Personally, my fond memories of Battlefront II are playing local co-op in split-screen with my brother or with a friend, so I can’t say that I agree with DICE on this one. What do you think?

I remember there being a campaign, perhaps I am wrong but I am somewhat disappointed with this announcement. might not be getting it now, I was very excited for the release now not so much.

It makes me wonder if they actually played them. The campaigns were fun, and I played it many times the hours I gave to multiplayer. I also wonder how they reached this decision, considering the multiplayer of both games is basically dead, giving very little to go on. The joy of Battlefront was the feeling of playing with action figures in a 120 player battle, going amongst the soldiers to play out your fantasy. It just seems like DICE is trying to justify a bad decision.

I’ve always enjoyed the campaign and galactic conquest mode. I don’t do a lot of multiplayer games.

I really hope this flops like Titanfall did. It doesn’t deserve the hype it’s getting. Doesn’t even deserve the title ‘Battlefront’. Battlefield is more like it.

Titanfall was a fantastic game. It certainly didn’t set any GTA-style sales records, but it was definitely no flop either!

Sounds to me like they don’t want to spend the money for an actual campaign… might cut into the cash grab, ya know?

I don`t mind that they don`t want to have a campaign. In fact I really don`t want them to because they have no prior successful experience besides Bad Company 2 that I know of. I do mind however that they would be so dishonest as to say that the previous battlefront games did not really have campaigns.

“We feel like this is more of a multiplayer franchise.”
    That is why you fail.
EA, you just lost any chance of me buying this.

Well programming a single player campaign actually takes work and creativity, consuming time and money. With multiplayer, you just create a lobby and let players go about it, making occasional balance tweaks as necessary. It’s a really lazy way of making games these days.
