According to the annual study by the NPD Group, Kids and Gaming 2015, mobile devices are now the most popular platforms for gaming in kids aged 2-17.

Previously, home computer gaming (PC) was the most popular. The survey ranked it at 45 percent this year, down 22 percent from 2013. The decline is seen across the board, but it is most prominent in 2-5 year olds.

The NPD also noted that console gaming has seen a small decline, but nothing compared to the PC gaming. Handheld gaming has seen a continuing decline over the years, but it remains prominent in kids aged 9-11 at 41 percent.

Liam Callahan, and industry analyst for the NPD group has said that its most shocking to see the migration away from PC gaming. “In the past, the computer was considered the entry point for gaming for most kids, but the game has changed now that mobile has moved into that position.  This may be related to a change in the behavior of parents that are likely utilizing mobile devices for tasks that were once reserved for computers.”
