343 Industries, developers of the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians, have detailed how the game’s requisition system will work, allowing players to collect weapons and gadgets for use.

343 took to the official company blog to explain how the system works, also publishing the below video to further outline the in-game scheme. The REQ system has been “designed to reward players for time spent in Halo 5’s multiplayer experiences” said 343 in the blog post.

The REQ system clearly takes inspiration from a collectible card game, with more than 1,000 cards being available for players to collect at the launch of Halo 5, and many more following on the way. Players can gain REQ points by partaking in matches of either Warzone or Arena, two of the game’s competitive online modes. They can then spend the accumulated points to unlock weapons, vehicles and gadgets for use online.

However the REQ cards can either be a one time use, or provide the player with a permanent boost. The more powerful REQ cards, for example a weapon or a vehicle, might only be a one time use, while other cards may provide a permanent boost for the player. In addition to this, some cards can only be used within the Warzone mode, while others can only be used within Arena.

Some REQ cards are also rarer than others, and the more rare the card, the greater chance of getting a powerful weapon or vehicle for use. The rarity of the REQ cards is graded in the following order:

  • Common
  • Uncommon
  • Rare
  • Ultra-Rare
  • Legendary
  • Mythic

Halo 5: Guardians will launch for the Xbox One worldwide on October 27th.
