The Xbox One version of Borderlands, playable via backwards compatibility, does not allow players to take screenshots.  Microsoft confirmed that this was because of “licensing” issues.

The game became available through the Xbox One Preview Program, but players were quick to report the inability to record gameplay or take screenshots.

Microsoft responded to complaints via the forums, stating: “This is expected. Unfortunately, recording/screenshots are turned off for Borderlands.”  They cited “licensing” issues as the reason for turning off these features.

Microsoft have failed to mention anything else regarding this issue.  Other games available through backwards compatibility do support screenshots and gameplay recording, and it is still unclear why Borderlands has a restriction placed on it.

2K Games have not yet commented on this issue.

Borderlands is available as part of backwards compatibility for the Xbox One, and will be followed by a number of titles as the year progresses.

Do you support backwards compatibility for next gen consoles?  Why do you think theirs a ban on recordings and capture?  Let us know in the comments below.
