Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s season pass revealed to be $29.99.

According to Xbox Wire, “Xbox and Crystal Dynamics announced that the game is now available for digital pre-order in the Xbox Store with two great offers.”

The first offer is the pre-order edition ($59.99) which includes the full game, and the bonus Remnant Resistance Pack. The pack includes the “Remnant” outfit for Lara, an assortment of animal skins, and Byzantine armor. The Remnant outfit gives Lara a chance to bandage herself without using any resources. The second offer is the deluxe edition ($89.99), which includes the Remnant pack and the season pass.

Rise of the Tomb Raider’s season pass contains an Endurance mode that will challenge you to “extreme conditions.” The season pass also includes Baba Yaga: Temple of the Witch; this dlc adds a new tomb to explore. The last mode is Cold Darkness Awakened, which sends waves of infected predators at you to battle.

Xbox Wire states, credits can be earned through exploration and completing challenges. Credits can be used to purchase “Expedition Cards,” and the credits can be bought with actually money. This is where the microtransactions come into play. Expedition cards are game modifying items, for example, the “Bullet Resistance” foil card in the Remnant Resistance Pack gives Lara damage resistance from bullets. There are two types of cards: foiled cards, and common cards. According to IGN, ” A Foil Card will give Lara the strongest or strangest variations and can be used as many times as you wish. A Common Card is only used once, and you’ll need to earn more credits to buy it back.” According to Gamespot, Crystal Dynamics creative director Noah Hughes explains,

In Rise of the Tomb Raider, you’ll earn credits by completing challenges and exploring the world. These credits can be used to purchase Expedition Card packs. When used, Expedition Cards become modifiers in game modes outside of the single player campaign. Some Cards are humorous, such as Big Head Mode, while others can increase the challenge or give you special advantages.

This suggests that there may be even more modes available in the game then they have announced so far. Big head mode has always been a favorite among most gamers.

Rise of the Tomb Raider doesn’t have traditional multiplayer, but there are online aspects of the game.

  • Score Attack mode allows you to replay levels with new rules. You will receive a score based on your combos, movements, and collectibles. Chaining these three things together is important to keep a high score multiplier in order to achieve the best score possible.
  • In Remnant Resistance you can replay Hub areas with expedition cards, and choose the enemies and objectives. After this is done, your friends can be challenged to attempt the same mission to achieve a better score than you.
  • Chapter Replay is basically new game +, and you are able to hold onto your skills and equipment.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will launch on November 10th for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The PC version will be available in early 2016, and it will come to the PS4 holiday season of 2016. The new installment will take a completionists around 30 to 40 hours to do. Needless to say this game will have a lot of content, and the online portion of the games seems interesting.
