DICE announced 3 new modes for Star Wars: Battlefront. The 3 modes vary greatly, as a 7v1, Capture the Flag, and King of the Hill style games.

Hero Hunt is the new 7v1 mode. Starting as either a Hero or Villain character, the remaining 7 players will be Troopers of the opposing faction. During the match, whoever ends up with the most time as the iconic Hero or Villain will win the round.

If you manage to kill the Hero or Villain while playing a Trooper, you’ll take their place and can begin racking up time for yourself. Each character acts differently, and the possibilities revealed so far are Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Luke Skywalker. “if the current Villain is someone like Boba Fett you want to be in a more confined area where his jetpack won’t do the bounty hunter any good. When Darth Vader is nearby, on the other hand, you don’t want to encounter his crowd-control skills in a narrow corridor.”

Cargo is Star Wars: Battlefront’s version of Capture the Flag, the 15 minute round starts with a scoring of 5-5. Whenever you capture an enemy’s cargo you’ll get 1 point taken away from their total score, bringing it to 6-4. You don’t need your own Cargo in your base to capture your opponents, having a much different feel then classic Capture the Flag.

This creates a tug-of-war concept, and according to Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall, it’ll avoid a traditional problem with Capture the Flag. “The reason behind this tweak? In old school capture the flag modes, a lot of action centered round grabbing the enemy flag and running away to hide, since the enemy could not capture unless their flag was in their base. This resulted in home bases that were rarely defended, since most action took place in the center of the map.”

Droid Run is more reminiscent of King of the Hill, having 3 active objectives on the field: GNK Droids. In the 6v6 mode, communication is the key element. The small maps keep action the main focus in Droid Run, and the goal is to have all 3 points under control for your team. “There are three active objectives on the map that you need to control. These aren’t just any objectives – what you need to get a hold of are three different GNK Droids. What’s particularly charming with these is that they’re all moving and have to be caught before the capture process can start. This creates a more dynamic and action-filled experience.”
