With Star Wars: The Force Awakens hitting theaters later this week, fans are eager to see how the new installment to the series will turn out. Not only is the first new film important, but so are all the future ones that will continue the saga.

Long time writer, Lawrence Kasdan, talked with the Los Angeles Times about the new trilogy and how each director brings something new to the table. While JJ Abrams is the director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Episode 8 and 9 are being directed by Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow respectively.

“If you’ve seen Rian’s work, you know it’s not going be like anything that’s ever been in Star Wars. You couldn’t have three more different people than JJ, Rian, and Colin,” Kasdan stated. “Those movies will have the Star Wars saga as their basis, but everything else will be different.”

Lawrence Kasdan was a co-writer for The Empire Strike Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens. He may have an idea of what he’s talking about. Kasdan is also part of the writing team for the stand alone Han Solo project.  Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit theaters on December 18th.
