In the lifetime of the video game world, there have been a tremendous amount of new waves in technology to help the field. Touch screens, motion controls, and now virtual reality. Microsoft has taken a unique path at VR with its HoloLens. Unfortunately, the average gamer doesn’t know when they’ll get to use it.

Alex Kipman, the creator of the HoloLens, spoke about how Microsoft has to handle the release of this device. Comparing it to the Kinect, Kipman stated that there simply wasn’t enough to do with that peripheral, so it slowly faded from people’s minds too quickly. This occurred even after having fantastic sales upon its initial release. As of now, the HoloLens is only available as a $3,000 development kit with only 12 actual experiences made for it. That ratio is simply not worth it.

In talking about Microsoft releasing the HoloLens, Kipman said “When I feel the world is ready, then we will allow normal people to buy it. It could be as soon as we say ‘yes,’ and it could be as long as a ‘very long time.’”
