Nintendo has brought to life so many things that gamers today hold near and dear to their hearts, as well as simple things that they take for granted. Handheld gaming, the D-pad, shoulder buttons, analog sticks, rumble controllers, and others came from the Big N. So what’s the next big thing up their sleeve?

President Tatsumi Kimishima recently spoke in an interview with Asahi Shimbun about the mysterious Nintendo NX. Rumors surrounding this device have stated it to be a hybrid handheld and home console as well as many other things. Kimishima simply stated “The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS. It’s a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don’t feel it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U.” Some might not be convinced of this statement with the less than stellar sales of the Wii U. This, however, is somewhat reminiscent of the early days of the Wii, when no one had seen it and it was referred to as the “Revolution.” We all know how that turned out.

Whatever your feelings towards Nintendo are on this situation, it will be interesting for nearly everyone to finally find out details about the NX before its release in March 2017. Unfortunately, it won’t be at this year’s E3, since the company announced it would be absent at this long awaited expo.
