Even though it was announced over a year ago at E3 2015, we still know very little about Rare’s upcoming Sea of Thieves. With that in mind, it therefore comes as little surprise the game now seems to have slipped to a 2017 release.

When it first debuted, Sea of Thieves promised a 2016 release date. With no firm date given during its most recent E3 showing however, many were left scratching their heads. Thanks to Xbox’s head of marketing, Aaron Greenberg, we might now know why.

Speaking with Kinda Funny Games, Greenberg discusses the future line-up for the Xbox. After listing off the console’s fall games, he turns to early 2017 saying, “Not far after that we get into things like Halo Wars 2 in February and then we keep kind of cranking as we go through. Sea of Thieves is coming out in that window, Scalebound, a lot more titles.”

Halo Wars 2 is currently listed to release February 21, with Scalebound simply listed for 2017, after being delayed out of this fall.

The Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive Sea of Thieves has players join each other in a multiplayer-centric pirate game where they have to work together to sail ships, explore islands, and even fight other players. As we learn more about Rare’s latest, you’ll find it all right here on Gamespresso.
