With the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the NX on the way, it seems that Nintendo is seeking to shake things up a little bit. And that is only more evident with the teasing of a ‘new kind of Mario’ by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto.

In an interview with IGN Miyamoto said, “We’re always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two.”

Mario has changed up its play style in the past with games such as Mario 64, Super Mario RPG, and Mario Kart. With all of these games gaining praise, it will be interesting to see what Nintendo will do with the famous Italian plumber in the future.

Miyamoto also spoke about the difficulties of making a new Mario game, “It’s kind of difficult with Mario because some of the more important conventions of Mario are based on the approachability and accessibility of those games.”

Shigeru Miyamoto teased that “Maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something.” Judging by that date,  it wouldn’t be unlikely to see this new Mario featured on the NX system.
