One of the great things about episodic gaming is that it’s somewhat bringing back the trend of demos. After a series has released its first few episodes, the developer or publisher tends to release the first episode for free, almost as a demo for people to try out the series and see if it’s something that would pique their interest. Finally, Life is Strange has added themselves to that list, making their first episode free for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, and PC.

“By making the first episode of Life is Strange free, we’re really excited to welcome new players to the world of Arcadia Bay and our passionate, vibrant community,” Jon Brooke, VP Brand and European Marketing at Square Enix, stated. “We’re incredibly pleased with the awards that the series has won to date as well as the support that our community have given us throughout the campaign.”

“Although our team set out to create an award-winning narrative we still cannot believe the response we’ve had from players of Life is Strange“,  Oskar Guilbert, CEO of Dontnod Entertainment, also added. “We’re really glad that Square Enix have decided to give the first episode away for free so more players can begin their journey and see why people have fallen in love with the game for themselves.”

As a sort of celebration, Square Enix has recently released a new trailer for the free episode. Check it out below, and why not check out Life is Strange afterwards?
