Since its release in 2001, the Pikmin series has been intriguingly adorable, attracting fans of both cuddly creatures and any Darwinian entomologists that enjoy drone insects. The last title in the series, Pikmin 3, was in 2013, and since then, word has been silent on whether a sequel was in the works.

Shigeru Miyamoto had stated during last year’s E3 that a new entry in the Pikmin game series was coming into fruition, but since then, almost nothing has been stated about any Pikmin project.

Thanks to an interview between Miyamoto and GameRant, fans of the Pikmin series finally have an answer to the question: where’s Pikmin 4?

“Yes, you are right, and we’re working on [Pikmin 4],” Miyamoto told GameRant. “So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”

With Nintendo’s mystery console being released in the next year or so, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a Pikmin 4 release coincide sometime near the console’s release date. The first Pikmin title released pretty closely with the GameCube’s launch. Another interesting thought is what mystery projects await before Pikmin 4 is even announced.
