A tweet made by Xbox Australia announced that Rare’s upcoming game, Sea of Thieves, will release February 2017. However, Aaron Greenberg, head of marketing at Xbox, has responded to the news by saying the game has yet to settle on a confirmed release date.

Xbox Australia’s original tweet has since been deleted. It said (via IGN), “Ship-REKT! Sea of Theieves [CTC] is coming to #XboxOne Feb 2017.”

Also, without confirming or denying a February 2017 launch, a Microsoft representative made a statement about their plans for the game before its release.

“Our next goal beyond E3 is a closed beta where we’ll get some of our keenest fans involved in playing the game and providing feedback to the studio,” the rep told GameSpot. “We have nothing further to share at the moment but will have more details in the future.”

The game first debuted at E3 2015 and made another appearance at this year’s conference. It was announced to support Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program that allows cross-play on both Xbox One and Windows 10.

Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios. It features a multiplayer open world with swashbuckling pirate-themed action. Stay tuned for further updates on the game’s release date.
