The Metal Gear franchise has been through a lot in the past 30 years. Solid Snake has faced gunslingers, ninjas, vampires, telekinetic beings, and more. All the while using a box as his most handy tool. The next installment in this beloved series has finally been announced at Gamescom, called Metal Gear Survive. Surprisingly, the first game in the series since the departure of Hideo Kojima looks to be the strangest of all.

Set very shortly after Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, a group of soldiers are whisked away into a portal in the sky, leaving them in an alternate timeline desert. The trouble doesn’t stop there, however, as they are met by blood thirsty mutated creatures with horns.

Metal Gear Survive is 4 player cooperative. The gameplay will use classic stealth techniques fans have come to know and love, but will combine with the use of teamwork to make everything a little extra challenging. This will bring a new feeling to franchise never seen before.

Solid Snake isn’t the main character and the game is 4 player co-op? Konami is taking a lot of risks with Metal Gear Survive. Let’s see if it pays off in the end. This title will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2017. Check out the announcement trailer below.
