A recent leak from an insider has revealed that Mass Effect Andromeda will be using an all-new animation system.

The reveal came on NeoGAF, when shinobi602, who has a record of accurate leaks, responded to some of the criticism that the game’s animation was receiving.

“It’s ironic that many are mocking the animations in the game when it’s all entirely [built] from the ground up,” shinobi602 wrote. “All new animations.”

The insider than compared the system to Ubisoft’s upcoming title, For Honor.

“They’re using a brand new locomotion system in the game similar to the things Ubisoft is trying to push with For Honor,” shinobi602 stated. “It’s the body locomotion with locked feet and natural gesturing system. You can see it in the way Ryder walks and transitions into different speeds and turns. Animations look much better than any previous BioWare game.”

The leaker also revealed that some of the animations took advantage of motion-capture technology in order to create more realistic effects.

It has been announced that the male and female protagonists of Mass Effect Andromeda are not the same person, but are instead brother and sister. Creative Director revealed the news, stating: “We’re seeing our male character, at E3 we got to see our female character. What a lot of people don’t know – a little surprise here – is that these two are brother and sister. And they both exist in the game world at the same time. So if you’re playing as the sister, female Ryder, you brother is somewhere in the universe.” It was also revealed that the figure in N7 armor shown in the original announcement trailer is the father of the two protagonists.

Mass Effect Andromeda will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2017.
