Fixing bugs and addressing the Poise system, the next patch for Dark Souls III has plenty for fans to get excited over. When the game first launched, the Poise stat was one particular point that confounded players. Similar, but fundamentally different from the Dark Souls 1 system of the same name, many even thought Poise was glitched.

In previous games, the stat affected a hidden stagger resistance making those in heavy armor harder to stagger overall. When this seemed to not be the case in Dark Souls III, players were rightfully confused. Even now however, after players have discovered Poise only takes effect during specific frames of some movements and attacks, it still hasn’t quite lived up to being an integral part of the game. But all that might now be changing.

In the most recent round of patch notes, this time for version 1.08, going live October 21, From Soft promises, “Adjusted poise values across the board. Poise is now more effective for heavier weapons and armor.” In theory this should make heavier character builds a bit more viable for players, though we will have to wait and see just how dramatic the changes are.

1.08 also includes improvements to the animations for hammers, greatswords, axes, and fist weapons, along with multiple bug fixes and other balancing tweaks. All this comes just in time for the game’s first expansion, Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel.

Releasing October 25, the DLC will feature a new area, the frozen ruins of Ariandel, and even a new PvP mode. As we learn more, keep checking back right here on Gamespresso.
