In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has announced a partnership with Rockstar Games for the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2.

The blog post discusses how the game will take full advantage of the PlayStation 4, and that “the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.” More importantly, however, is that certain content for that multiplayer experience will come first to the PS4. Sony says, “We are pleased to announce that PS4 players will get first access to earn select online content in the vast open world of Read Dead Redemption 2.”

There is no mention of what type of content this will be, aside from it being online content. Of particular interest is the specific mention that PS4 players will get first access to earn the content, which may suggest that this is not the standard purchasable DLC we are used to, but rather something that is obtained through playing the game. No information is available on how long the exclusivity of this content will last before coming to other platforms.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was revealed recently in a trailer put out by Rockstar, and the game is scheduled to release in fall 2017. In the meantime, the first Red Dead Redemption is coming to PlayStation Now.
