LEGO Dimensions was released to grab the wave of toy-to-life enthusiasm created by Skylanders. To coincide with the release of the newest movie from the JK Rowling wizarding universe, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a new expansion pack is being launched for the multi platform Lego Dimensions.

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them expansion pack is coming out alongside new packs of Sonic the Hedgehog, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Gremlins, as well as the surreal children’s TV series Adventure Time. Each pack contains mini-figures with special Golden Toy Tags which unlock a free play Adventure World for the corresponding brand. Exclusive Battle Arenas are also part of the content where four game modes can be enjoyed competitively or cooperatively, as 2v2, 3v1 or solo.

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them pack comes with a movie based story gameplay mode with 6 levels. Gateway bricks to build the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA) on your LEGO Toy Pad are also included. The new content becomes available from 11am EST/10am PST on the 18th November.

The speedy blue hedgehog, Sonic, has his own Level Pack. You visit the iconic locations of Green Hill Zone, Emerald Coast, and Labyrinth among others, in a battle against Dr Robotnik and his Badniks. Its launch trailer debuted on YouTube recently.

E.T, Gremlins, and Adventure Time come with Adventure Worlds to explore, and exclusive mini-figures to utilize. Perhaps they too can gain the hype surrounding the SEGA and JK Rowling creations. It however seems clear with the marketing strategy surrounding these new expansion packs that LEGO expects Sonic and Fantastic Beasts to be their big sellers over the coming Christmas period, but the beauty of LEGO Dimensions is of course its interchangeability and allowing players to take their favorite characters to different universes.

LEGO Dimensions is available for PlayStation 3 and 4, Xbox 360 and One, and Nintendo Wii U, and future expansions are in the pipeline for the new year including classic 80’s film The Goonies.
