The idea of playing a game on one device and having opponents or teammates on another is something new to the world of online multiplayer. Microsoft is really attempting to push this forward with their Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. Unfortunately, Gears of War 4 is the only major title we have seen implement this feature. The people at Xbox, however, are looking to make sure there are more cross-play games in the future.

With the lack of cross-play games on the market right now, one fan decided to dig a little deeper. The easiest way for a common person to reach a major company is Twitter of course. Luckily for them, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, is known for answering questions on this medium.

When questioned about more cross-play games for the future, Spencer stated, “I hope so, that’s our goal. HW2 doesn’t for some longer standing engine reasons but going forward cross-play is a good feature.” In this case, “HW2” is Halo Wars 2, the upcoming real-time strategy game from 343 Industries. We know that cross-play has been successful for Gears of War 4, so we can’t wait to see what other titles will get the feature in the near future on Xbox.
