Is Kodoku on your radar yet?

A new horror game that isn't first person and doesn't take place in an old insane asylum? Count me in!Carnivore Studio has been teasing their first project, Kodoku, since the end of January. So far they've let slide a few screenshots and videos it can be definitively said that this is one game that will be well deserving of its "Disturbing imagery" tag on the ESRB label. If you're into horror this is going to be right in your wheelhouse.

Carnivore Studio has been teasing their first project, Kodoku, since the end of January. So far they’ve let slide a few screenshots and videos it can be definitively said that this is one game that will be well deserving of its “Disturbing imagery” tag on the ESRB label. In a post on the PlayStation blog, Carnivore Studio founder, Romain Toutain, explains that Kodoku will be blending horror from things as old as Japanese folklore and Lovecraftian-style creatures, up to modern horror themes and the always unsettling Butoh dance.

“The game is a horror and exploration game, set on a Japanese island.” Toutain says, “Kodoku is game where you will be able to explore an entire island filled with mystery, horror and magic; where the island itself would come to life and take part in the Kodoku ritual; an island where you will be seeking an explanation and struggling to survive.”

Not a lot of information on Kodoku is circulating at the moment. A handful of screenshots have made it onto the internet in addition to the above teaser. Carnivore has stated that they are really focusing on the art direction of the game. The teaser alone has enough personality to give you a strong sense of atmosphere. Continuing to push in this direction is sure to result in a dread inducing adventure complete with plenty of disturbing images to keep you awake at night.

The company released the first little bit of gamplay today. They’re still playing it pretty close to the vest in terms of what the game will ultimately be like, but this work in progress video seems like a good start.

There is no release date yet, but we will keep all of you horror hounds posted!
