Blizzard community manager Micah Whipple, better known as Bashiok, has resigned as of Friday July 31. This is coming just days after the plans to announce the next World of Warcraft expansion were revealed.

It is clear that this was a difficult decision to make for the veteran employee who has been with Blizzard since 2003. Whipple stated that, “I don’t think I’ve had to make any decisions as difficult as the one to leave Blizzard, but a new opportunity has come my way, and I’ve decided to take it.”

Whipple has not identified his new position, but there are speculations it is associated with Riot Games, best known for their powerhouse MOBA League of Legends. The whiteboard below has a comment that says, “it’s been a riot working with you,” with the word riot circled.

What do you think of his decision to leave Blizzard? Let us know in the comments section below.
