How Xûr changed with Destiny: The Taken King

In Bungie's weekly update, the developer outlined three new features to Destiny's weekend merchant Xûr in Year Two. Xûr will now offer players a specific Exotic Weapon or an Exotic Engram for purchase, the Three of Coins consumable, and a Legacy Engram for players who want to complete their Year One collections."In Year One, Xûr was a community “loot drop,” a shared rallying point that everyone could cheer or curse, " Senior Design Lead Tyson Green explained, "In Year Two, Xûr’s offerings have been changed so that he will select either a specific Exotic Weapon or an Exotic Engram for sale every week. This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory."

“In Year One, Xûr was a community “loot drop,” a shared rallying point that everyone could cheer or curse, ” Senior Design Lead Tyson Green explained, “In Year Two, Xûr’s offerings have been changed so that he will select either a specific Exotic Weapon or an Exotic Engram for sale every week. This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory.”

Green continued, “Xûr will also choose a Legacy Engram every week. These Engrams contain Year One Exotics (at Year One Attack and Defense levels) for players who want to finish up a Collection. They strongly bias towards Exotics not already in your Blueprint Collection, to help fill in the blank slots – excluding Mythoclast and Necrochasm, which are still only available from their Year One sources.”

Bungie also touched on the the new Three of Coins which, as we previously reported, is a consumable to boost the chance of getting an Exotic Engram or Exotic Weapons drop after defeating an “Ultra” boss. An Ultra is a high-level boss with a skull displayed next to its name. These Coins have a stackable effect so if the first Ultra a player defeats doesn’t drop an Exotic, the next Ultra will have a higher chance to give the drop.
