Fans of the Marvel universe are in mourning after the unthinkable happened. Marvel recently launched a new series, Squadron Supreme, and they did the unthinkable when a legendary character was killed off in a very brutal way.

On December 16th, the first issue of Squadron Supreme made it into the stores. a team of iconic heroes formed with Nighthawk, Doctor Spectrum, Hyperion, Blur, and Power Princess. The vile villain for the series is Namor, the Atlantean/Human Mutant hybrid. The team came to the decision that Namor is guilty of crimes against humanity and must be brought to justice for them. The heroes from Squadron Supreme make the decision that they need to take matters into their own hands to fight Namor and his Atlantian followers.

Hyperion and  Namor go head to head in an ultimate battle. During the fight, Hyperion single-handily raises Atlantis out of the ocean and ultimately destroys it by crashing it into the ground. Namor loses the battle after being hit by a blast from Hyperion. As the dust settles, The Squadron Supreme revels in their victory as a decapitated Namor is lying on the ground.

Namor is an iconic character in the Marvel universe. He made his first appeared in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 back in 1939. Namor was unique because he could be classified as both a hero and a villain. He held memberships in both  Avengers and Defenders; however, he was also in cahoots  with villains like Doctor Doom.

While the Marvel universe is mourning this death, fans need to keep in mind that death is rarely permanent in comic books. Many characters in the past have cheated death through means of sciences or the mystic arts. Death is not always forever in the Marvel universe.

Squadron Supreme #1 is available in local comic shops and in digital formats through Marvel and Comixology.
