This is why Nintendo isn't releasing an Arwing amiibo

Creating an amiibo for the Arwing, Star Fox's symbolic ship, seems like a no-brainer, and Nintendo thought the same thing. However, consumers shouldn't be expecting an amiibo in the form of the ship for some time, as the company attempted to make one, but failed to create one that could adhere to safety standards.

Creating an amiibo for the Arwing, Star Fox’s symbolic ship, seems like a no-brainer, and Nintendo thought the same thing.

However, consumers shouldn’t be expecting an amiibo in the form of the ship for some time, as the company attempted to make one, but failed to create one that could adhere to safety standards.

“Unfortunately, we won’t be releasing an Arwing amiibo,” the game’s producer, Shigeru Miyamoto, said in an interview with IGN. “We did have a few prototypes. There was an Arwing amiibo that transforms into the Walker, but we weren’t able to turn that into a product that could meet safety guidelines for children.”

An amiibo that transforms and moves would be the first of Nintendo’s figurines to do such a thing, and Miyamoto still has hopes to someday create such a figure.

“We had to give up on that idea, but maybe we’ll do something with it in the future. Who knows.”

Star Fox Zero launches for Wii U on April 21st, 2016.
