Tomb Raider movie director talks his vision for the new Lara

After the new Tomb Raider film received its director last November, it has been a long wait to hear anything more about the adaptation. Now, the film’s director, Roar Uthaug, has opened up more about his vision for Lara Croft’s next adventure. And it turns out it’s another origin story.Speaking with IGN, Uthaug explained his movie will pull influence from the two most recent games. “I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that's definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well… I think we'll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I'm hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.”

After the new Tomb Raider film received its director last November, it has been a long wait to hear anything more about the adaptation. Now, the film’s director, Roar Uthaug, has opened up more about his vision for Lara Croft’s next adventure. And it turns out it’s another origin story.

Speaking with IGN, Uthaug explained his movie will pull influence from the two most recent games. “I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well… I think we’ll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I’m hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise.”

Not only is Uthaug a long time fan of the Tomb Raider series, all the way back to the original game in 1996, he said, “I’ve always been a fan of strong female characters… and I think I’ve had strong female characters in all my previous movies, so that’s something I thought was interesting.”

Continuing, “Raiders of the Lost Ark was one of my favorite films growing up, so it’s definitely a dream to work in that kind of genre… I think we’ll want to make it feel like a modern action movie and to make what’s going on feel like it’s going on for real.”

Currently, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the writer of Transformers 5, is set to pen the script, while Uthaug’s most recent film, a disaster movie called The Wave, is out now. What do you think of the possible direction of the Tomb Raider reboot? Are you in the mood for another ‘real’ origin story? Let us know in the comments.
