After being closed down, Motorstorm and Driveclub developer Evolution Studios looks to be seizing a second chance at life. Joining with Codemasters, the developer behind Grid and Dirt, a large part of the talent and experience behind Evolution Studios has found a new home.

Announced by Codemasters, the acquisition of Evolution Studios “will not only see us gain a wealth of racing expertise and skill, but it’ll take Codemasters to the next level as the world’s largest racing-focused games company.”

Former Studio Director for Evolution Studios, Mick Hocking, will be stepping in as the new VP Product Development at Codemasters, overseeing all of the company’s studios, including Evolution.

Commenting on the partnership, Codemasters CEO Frank Sagneir says, “The success of F1™ 2015 and DiRT Rally over the last 12 months has re-positioned the company for growth.  The addition of the Evolution team to our studio group will allow us to scale our business and strengthen our leadership as the world’s premier racing game developer… I look forward to the great games and brand new IP we will develop together.” The move will be finalized April 25.

This all comes after Sony closed down Evolution Studios last month, following the troubled launch and subsequent year of support for Driveclub. As we learn more about the future of Evolution Studios, you’ll find it all right here on Gamespresso.
