You might have seen Mighty No.9 around before, a spiritual successor to the Mega Man series. Mighty No.9 hopes to capture the magic of Mega Man and bring it to the modern day gamer.

The trailer, titled “Masterclass,” showcases some of the gameplay mechanics that the game hopes to enthral you with. First shown is the ‘dash’ move that will be used in both traversal and combat making it a versatile mechanic. Another ability shown is the ‘combo mechanic,’ pretty much everyone who’s played a game will know what a combo is and there’s nothing new brought to the table here, you kill multiple foes in a single move and you get a higher score. Combos can also be stacked.

The final mechanic on show is ‘absorption boosts’ or what are essentially powerups. The deal is, you kill an enemy and ‘you can absorb their power.’ Whether or not this alludes to a charged power up or single drop items is unknown but what they do is “make you faster, stronger and make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night.”

There was a Mighty No. 9 live stream at 4 am P.T on May 27th that showed off most of the mechanics in greater detail on the Japanese website Nico Video.

So far the reception of the trailer has been poor with many viewers complaining about the trailer’s “out of touch” feel and “condescending” tone, check it out for yourself and let us know how you feel about the Mighty No.9.

Mighty No. 9 releases on June 21st on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, 3DS, and PC. For more info on the game check out the Mighty No.9 website.
