Nintendo released details about Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past during their Treehouse Live stream at E3.

The 3DS remake of the 2001 PlayStation game will finally be making its way to North America later this year. The game sees players travel to the past in order to restore forgotten lands and battle an unknown evil in an attempt to save the present.

Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past rebuilds the visuals of the original, and provides a complete retelling of the story. The visuals have been updated in order to fit in with modern Dragon Quest titles. The game features a cast of characters and monsters designed by critically acclaimed manga and game artist Akira Toriyama. Players can customize their party from more than 30 different classes, and level up in turn-based battles as they learn new spells and abilities. The 3DS version of the game will also include a StreetPass feature that allows players to send and receive traveler’s tablets to explore new dungeons that will contain rare monsters and unique equipment.

Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past is being released to celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary. The game will feature 457 monsters in total, and players will be able to change their party members into monsters they have defeated in the vocation system. At first, Square Enix did not want to localize the title, as they felt that the game was so text-heavy that it would be too much trouble to bring the game stateside. However, due to strong fan feedback, especially from a group of gamers in France, the game is now coming west. You can check out the trailer for the game below:

Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past will release on the 3DS on September 16th. Stay tuned to Gamespresso for all of your E3 news.
