Nintendo wants Zelda’s series producer to “create a new IP”

Eiji Aonouma has long been a working on The Legend of Zelda, ever since the Ocarina of Time way back in 1998 when he began as a designer. Having worked his way through the director and supervisor roles, today Aonouma finds himself as the series producer ahead of the 2017 release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild. Despite this, the game's publishers - Nintendo - are keen for him to try his hand on a new IP, but of course that doesn't mean they want him to stop working on The Legend of Zelda.Speaking in an interview with Edge magazine, Aonouma explains, "Actually, Nintendo has been telling me to create a new IP. But then, they're also telling me to make more Zelda games. I can't really share much; I'm not sure I'm allowed to say anything. But I really like the idea of a game where I can live as a thief. That's all I'll say."

Have you heard of a game called Thief, Eiji? Either way, it would be interesting to see what Mr. Aonouma would do with his own brand new IP, as he actually has little pedigree or experience in the industry besides The Legend of Zelda, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
