Originally released back in 2012, the game that started the narrative exploration genre is back for console gamers to try out for the first time. Releasing this week, Dear Esther: Landmark Edition is now available on PS4 and Xbox One.

“Dear Esther has been with us for eight years now, but our passion remains undiminished – and we are as excited about it now as we were the first time,” Creative Director Dan Pinchbeck says in a press release. “This Landmark Edition is the culmination of the work of an extraordinary team of individuals and we’re excited to see how console players will respond.”

The game sets players in the shoes of a lone man who finds himself on an uninhabited island. He then has to piece together the events that led to his wife’s death. The Landmark Edition packs a new commentary track that brings together Pinchbeck, original composer Jessica Curry, and artist Rob Briscoe.

Dear Esther was the premiere game from The Chinese Room, the developers that have since gone on to make the outstanding Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

Currently available for 20 percent off its usual price of $9.99 USD, the game is available digitally on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace. The discount lasts until October 4. PC and Mac players can look forward to the Landmark Edition hitting Steam as a free update, “at a later date.”
