Date and price announced for Oculus Touch controllers

Oculus has announced the release date and pricing for Oculus Touch, the motion tracking controllers for the Oculus Rift. At Oculus Connect 3, a developer conference held by Oculus, they revealed that the Oculus Touch controllers will cost $199 USD and will be released on December 6. The controllers, which are sold as a pair, will come with a tracking sensor and two games: VR Sports Challenge and The Unspoken. While the Oculus Rift comes with a sensor already, both sensors must be used at the same time for the Touch controllers to work. Oculus also announced that the Rift will be able to support room-scale VR, but that it will require a third sensor which needs to be placed behind the user in order to track them when they turn around. The Rift's sensors need to be plugged into a USB port on your PC, which differs from the HTC Vive's sensors which need only a power outlet to operate.

Additional sensors will be available for purchase for $79 USD, and will also release on December 6, 2016. The Oculus Rift has been capable of handling more than one sensor for a while now, but currently the only way to get another sensor is to get another Rift.

Oculus Touch will use a new system called Guardian that will help prevent users from moving outside of the play space, similar to the HTC Vive’s Chaperone system.

If you pre-ordered a Rift, you will be given access to an early round of pre-orders for the Touch controllers (starting October 10th), and will receive an email from Oculus with the details.
