5 Best fits for the "Warriors" series

Hyrule Warriors has proven that the Dynasty Warriors style of being a god on the battlefield can work for other game series, some netter than other.  With that in mind let's take a look at some of the other games which would benefit from having a "Warriors" title.

Star Wars

Now I’m not about to deny that we got a taste of something similar with games like The Force Unleashed.  Giving us the unrestrained might of the force, for what we could get on last generation systems anyway, and letting us loose wasn’t a bad idea.

But we need to take it one step further.  Imagine standing before hundreds of Rebel troopers fighting with Imperial troops on the battlefield.  The Rebel Alliance might have been mostly guerrilla but there were some large scale battles.  It’s just a case of blowing those up out of all proportion and giving each side hundreds of units for the players to wade through.

Another idea could be a story focusing on some of the expanded universe, looking back at the battles fought by the Empire and Republic of old on various planets.  The choice to fight for the Jedi or the Sith and having force powers based off each one.  If not them then a freelance Bounty Hunter or loyal soldier of either faction.  Yes I am borrowing class ideas from The Old Republic, but unleashing a flame barrage on hundreds of Jedi defenders like we’ve seen in cut-scenes would be awesome.

The destructive power of the Force could be shown off in full, as well as the capabilities and weapons at the disposal of each faction.  Imagine as a super move calling down an artillery or orbital strike on a horde of enemies, or taking a base by throwing Force Lightning bombs into the enemy ranks.  There’s so much untapped potential and we could do with something new, since Battlefront looks set to tease us for a bit longer.

Bleach

Yes, an anime series that would make a good Warriors game, original.  Koei have already shown that anime can work with a Warriors game, look at One Piece Pirate Warriors and Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage.  Both might not have been the deepest attempt at narrative and storytelling, but they’re still pretty sweet to just load up and see how many kills you can chalk up.

Bleach is another series which we’ve had a preview of what it might look like.  Bleach: Soul Resurreccion was a PS3 exclusive and featured the various characters from the Bleach universe slicing through smaller hordes of enemies.  We just need this but on a much bigger scale and given the full Warriors treatment.  The vast armies clashing on both sides and the epic powers of both Shikai and Bankai unleashed on the minions before us.

Anime is already pretty over the top, so let’s take it to the next level with a Warriors game.  Please?

Warhammer 40k

This one is another obvious one but just having the ability to play as a fighter from each faction, choosing your different abilities and different skins.  Customizing the look of your Space Marine or your Tau solider.  The abilities and bonuses that could come from each faction and different campaigns for that could stem from each one.

Warhammer might have a bit more of a tactical feature to it than something like Bleach, but who hasn’t wanted to just throw tactics out of the window, rev up the chainsword and go at it like the god of war that you are.

Slicing, blasting, kicking and generally gouging your way through the Ork armies couldn’t get any more satisfying, surely.

Castlevania

With a myriad of characters, settings, locations and bosses why would Castlevania not be on this list?  The 3D hasn’t been too kind to Castlevania since the days of the N64 and most games that have been in 3D for Castlevania have flopped harder than a vampire in the sunlight.

Let’s breathe new life into it then and put Simon Bellmont, Trevor, Alucard, Yoko Belanades, Maria Renard, everyone we’ve come to know and fight as in the series into a full scale war with Dracula and his forces.

The sheer amounts of zombies, skeletons, bats, spirits and other ghastly minions that are under Dracula’s control should be more than enough to make the enemies not seem repetitive in the game.  Plus the scale of the boss fights from Castlevania could easily be captured and translated into this.

Just think of the special abilities as well.  Giant holy crosses, twisters of biblical scripture ripping through unholy forces, blood magic spells to siphon life force and elemental magic to tear open the sky.  It has to happen.

Asura’s Wrath

This one some of you might not know.  Asura’s Wrath was an interesting little game that Capcom published on the Xbox 360 and PS3.  It wasn’t all that impressive but had an interesting way to tell it’s story similar to an anime episode.  It’d tell its story episodically, but with all the episodes on the disc, and be primarily a long QTE with some action sequences to battle through.  Most of it felt like a long interactive cut-scene.

The game told the story of Asura, a fallen deity seeking to reclaim his family after betrayal and took inspiration from the Buddhist and Hindu lore and told a pretty good story.

Why am I saying this would be a good warriors game?  Well because they’re gods.  There were eight gods in the game and all of them had their own aspects and powers, granted some of them were more tactical.  But they were fighting an all present enemy, the Gohma.

The Gohma were demon like beings of corruption which sought to plunge the world into darkness.  This would be a great opportunity to show off the strength of the gods themselves, go deeper into the lore and show us the power that the Hindu gods possess.

Do you agree with my list?  What kind of games would you like to see given the “Warriors” treatment?  Let us know in the comments below.
