Rockstar isn't banning GTA V PC mod users

Rockstar has been very quiet about the issue of mods since modders finally got into GTA V and began to work their magic on the game.Recently, some users running mods in single player have been having some severe problems for the past few weeks, and on Reddit there is a lot of focus on a FOV mod; it modifies the first person field of view and makes it easier on the eyes for players. There is even a post in the official Rockstar forums requesting the first person FOV be changed.

Recently, some users running mods in single player have been having some severe problems for the past few weeks, and on Reddit there is a lot of focus on a FOV mod; it modifies the first person field of view and makes it easier on the eyes for players. There is even a post in the official Rockstar forums requesting the first person FOV be changed.

Finally, Rockstar has commented on their view of mods for GTA V in a Q&A response on their website.

We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV.

From this, Rockstar is not against players modding their game and enjoy seeing where their players creativity takes them when it comes to designing mods. They continued by reminding players that mods are not official and can unintentionally break when the game is updated.

Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods.

This was no doubt in response to the upset that came from last weeks new patch that broke support for Script Hook V, which is used for running mods. It was not mentioned in the patch notes and there are some players who believe this was done on purpose to slow or prevent modding which Rockstar denies and says that it was not intentional. Rockstar also denies banning players who use mods in single player as their main focus is keeping the GTA V:O free of hackers and cheaters.

Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways.

It’s good to have them clear up the banning issue for single player usage. However, Rockstar didn’t fully answer the question about the FOV mod, though it would be safer to assume it’s a bad idea to use the mod when playing GTA V:O.

In a seperate response to another question, Rockstar confirmed they were taking the adequate steps to prevent and remove videos online that show players how to cheat and hack the game; they have updated their policy to counter this.
