Destiny: The Taken King smashes Playstation day-one download records

Activision announced that Destiny: The Taken King smashed day-one download records as the most downloaded launch day title in Playstation history. The $40 DLC launched as part of Destiny's Year Two plan and came out one week after a massive free update to Destiny players that changed many of the game's mechanics. The Taken King even outpaced the original Destiny game which launched September 9, 2014.“Destiny: The Taken King is officially the most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history and set a new benchmark for both total Destiny players and peak online concurrency on day-one, so it’s safe to say the Destiny franchise continues to gain momentum,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Along with our talented partners at Bungie, we cannot wait to watch the community continue to grow.”

Destiny: The Taken King is officially the most downloaded game on day-one in PlayStation history and set a new benchmark for both total Destiny players and peak online concurrency on day-one, so it’s safe to say the Destiny franchise continues to gain momentum,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Along with our talented partners at Bungie, we cannot wait to watch the community continue to grow.”

No specific numbers were given in the press release and Activision only talked about digital downloads for the Playstation systems not physical copies of the games. Activision also left out how well Destiny did on either of Microsoft’s platforms, but it’s still very good news for the company to see such growth in players between the game’s first year and its second year. The player growth is especially important after hearing about so many gamers who voiced confusion and frustration over the fragmented Year One light system.

Bungie has more content on the way for The Taken King as Destiny’s latest Raid entitled “King’s Fall” will be available to Guardians this Friday. King’s Fall will be the game’s biggest and most ambitious Raid to date.
