Amiibo and online play in Wii U's Mario Tennis

While the inclusion of Amiibo support and online multiplayer had been anticipated for Nintendo's upcoming Wii U title Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, a recently posted video confirms these two features' existence within the game. A brief two minute video posted by Nintendo highlights the ability of the player to bring Amiibo to life within the game's offline Knockout Challenge mode and as a partner within doubles matches via the online multiplayer mode. In addition, Amiibo will gain specific power-ups (speed increases, serve & smash power increases, control improvement, etc.) while becoming all-around stronger through participating in matches alongside the player.Other details revealed about the upcoming title from the video  include: two to four player local multiplayer, the ability to select from a variety of game modes such as Mega Battles, the ability to select different courts for play within matches, and an updated roster of characters with at least four hidden characters.  Known characters thus far are:
