The Battlefield 1 ESRB rating describes four playable characters

Though DICE released plenty of information about the Battlefield 1 single player campaign earlier today, it’s possible the game’s ESRB rating has given us even more. DICE announced Battlefield 1 will be structured as an anthology of War Stories, each one following a different character, on different fronts during WWI. According to the ESRB rating, there will be four characters in total.“This is a first-person shooter set in various locations during World War I. As players progress through the storyline, they assume the roles of fighter pilot, armor crewman, rebel fighter, and message runner in order to complete missions,” the ratings summary reads.

Though DICE released plenty of information about the Battlefield 1 single player campaign earlier today, it’s possible the game’s ESRB rating has given us even more. DICE announced Battlefield 1 will be structured as an anthology of War Stories, each one following a different character, on different fronts during WWI. According to the ESRB rating, there will be four characters in total.

“This is a first-person shooter set in various locations during World War I. As players progress through the storyline, they assume the roles of fighter pilot, armor crewman, rebel fighter, and message runner in order to complete missions,” the ratings summary reads.

We already know that the armor crewman will be a former chauffeur, turned tank driver, named Danny Edwards. During a story called ‘Through Mud and Blood,’ players will see Edwards join a tank crew and struggle to earn their respect. Likewise, the rebel fighter refers to an Arab rebel, a young woman, who is the right hand of Lawrence of Arabia. Fighting against the Ottoman Empire, you and the famous historical figure will take on an armored artillery train.

Though both do feature prominently in the Battlefield 1 single player trailer, we so far know much less about the fighter pilot or the message runner.

For anyone that might have worried for a moment the game won’t have the carnage to back up the WWI setting, the game is rated M, with the summary continuing, “Characters use rifles, pistols, machine guns, and grenades to kill enemy soldiers in frenetic, realistic combat. Battles are highlighted by frequent gunfire, cries of pain, and explosions. Some sequences depict enemies wielding flamethrowers; soldiers can be heard screaming while engulfed in flames. Players can also use knives or bayonets to stab enemies in stealth attacks. Splashes of blood can be seen when enemies are hit; one sequence depicts blood and corpses on a beach after a battle. The word “f**k” appears in the dialogue.”

Battlefield 1 comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC October 21.
