When players enter certain areas, the character models return to their natural Studio Ghibli-esque shapes. Some of these areas may also have unique environmental features, such as a miniature whirlwind the player can use to reach high platforms and locations.

Combat is the main focus of the trailer. Characters will participate in combat and use small creatures known as Higgledies to augment their abilities rather than rely on familiars. The player can take up to three characters into battle. Each character is capable of jumping, dodge rolling, casting magic spells, and attacking with either melee or ranged weapons. The trailer also shows how Higgledies can either cast devastating spells of their own or latch on to enemies Pikmin-style.

Along with coming to the PS4 sometime this year, Bandai Namco recently announced Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom will make its way to PC as well.
